Magic invisible thread can only do what your body does: lean, and the object moves; stand still, and nothing happens. This invisible thread reel takes that job over. A motor pulls the thread on command, so the object can move — at once, or a few seconds later — while your hands are already down and your eyes are on the audience. To them it simply floats or jumps across the table on its own.

A reel is only as good as the pull behind it, and this one has three. An instant pull of about 30 cm makes an object jump or vanish. A continuous pull runs for as long as you hold the button, so a feather rises slowly instead of snapping upward. A delayed pull counts down first, then moves on its own.

Set it for 5 or 10 seconds, up to 25. You finish the move, drop your hands and start talking, and the object moves long after anything you did. There is nothing in the performance anyone can connect to it.
The body is magnetic, so it holds to a steel table or table leg, and a washable, removable pad on the back fixes it anywhere else. A reel that is fixed in place pulls the same way every time.

The two buttons on the reel are different heights, so you can tell them apart through a pocket. The remote does the same job from up to 7 metres. Either way, you never have to look at it.

The thread is extremely fine: at about 20 cm it is already hard for the eye to pick out. The spool lifts out in one piece, and there are two in the box, each holding about 10 m of thread. Thread that fine breaks eventually; when it does, the swap takes seconds, not the rest of the show.

Most breaks start where the thread rubs on its way out. The guide here is lined with EVA, which cuts the wear and keeps the spool from tangling itself.
A ribbed wheel on the side sets the motor speed, with no steps. A faster pull leaves more thread out; a slower one leaves less. 50 cm is a good place to start.
